Basics Of Taekwondo & Sri Lankan context

With a birth of man, protection is very important. In childhood, our first protection force is our parents. as well as when we become a young age, we have responsibility of our self. So, we are the   guardian of our selves. Also, we have to use SELF-DIFENCE techniques for our protection.
 In present world we can able to identify most of the type of self- defensing methods which are use people for their protection. Today will focus about the sport of TEALWONGO as a self – defensing method.



  TAEKWONDO (Tae Kwon Do) is some kind of an art of self- defense that originate in Korea. Taekwondo is recognized as one of the oldest forms of martial art in the world reaching back over Two thousand (2000) years. The word of taekwondo was coined by using combination of three meanings that can identified in language of Korea. “TAE” mentioned “FOOT”, “KWON” mentioned “HAND” and “DO” mentioned “ART”. Simply its mean is taekwondo is the art that present by using human’s hands and foot.

As a sport, Taekwondo represents major two parts. First part is “SPARRING” & the second part is “POOMSAE”.

SPARRING

is the fighting part of the Taekwondo. Most famous part of the taekwondo is Sparring. Here two players fight with each other. They can use their foot as well as their hands for fight. If some player uses his/ her hand for fight only he/she can get the target the chest area of the opponent. Most of the time players are only use their foots for fighting. When the players are fight with each other; they can get strikes to the area above the waist. Each places of the body have Specific score.

Body shot: Normally players can get one point. But specially if they incorporate sparring technique, (getting the body shot using back kick) players can obtain three point. Punchers to the body, make one point of score.

Head shot: When a player make head kick, he/she can get three points. Also, if he uses sparring technique, he obtains extra point.

During the match, sometime players are making the mistakes that are beyond the rules of taekwondo. And the get penalties. There are some situations where the players get penalties.

  • When player withdraw from fight.
  • In active ten second.
  • When a player falls during the fight.
  • If a player touches their opponent.
  • Make kick below the belt.

POOMSAE

Is not a fighting technique. It represents different techniques that relate with taekwondo. A one player or team of players come to the ordinance and shows specific kicks punchers and advance techniques of taekwondo. Each shot has specific pattern. Score can obtain by making correct pattern of each shot.
